In 1979, I opened the first Beauty, Aesthetic and Electrolysis salon in Torbay. ‘SHUSHANNA’S HEALTH AND BEATY SALON.’ It was the first of its kind in Brixham, Torbay and Devon. I introduced the first sunbeds and beauty treatments.
It was a challenge as most of the female population in the South West at that time had never experienced aesthetic treatments.
I had an in depth, 2 year, full time education in Aesthetics and the training was RCN based and was supported by knowledge from nurses, doctors and physiotherapists. Indeed our clients were treated as patients.
It was not easy opening the first salon of its kind in a quiet backwater which was still cut off from the ‘city’ ideals, but I took on the challenge with excitement, utilising my interpersonal and aesthetic skills. I gave regular talks to the WI and the Soroptomists’ groups. I also volunteered many hours at the local Cheshire Home.
My work was my passion and I embraced a natural ability to help people with low self-esteem.
My patience, dedication and in-depth knowledge lead me to continued success for over 30 years.
I have been insured through the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (B.A.B.T.A.C), the British Clinical Aesthetics Association (BCAA) and the British Institute and Association of Electrolysis (B.I.A.E), for over 30 years for £5,000,000 and never had a claim made against me.
In 1998 I moved my business to Churston, Brixham, in the beautiful grounds of Churston Tennis Club.
